Carla Cesarina Lorenzini Biedenhorn, 88, a longtime resident of Williamsburg, died on March 13, 2012.
A native of Monghidoro (Bologna), Italy, Carla was born on November 15, 1923. She was the third of thirteen children born to her parents, Emilio and Amelia Lorenzini. She began working at an early age, using her earnings to train in the medical field, becoming a Red Cross nurse. At the end of World War II, Carla met and married Cyril J. Biedenhorn in the chapel of the hospital where she worked in Tirrenia (Toscana). The couple then moved to the United States. Cyril's work frequently meant moving, and Carla was his faithful companion in each new assignment.
Carla was a devout Catholic, and as an active parishioner of St. Bede Catholic Church in Williamsburg, she was a member of Young at Heart, where she formed many special friendships. She was a kind woman, always loving animals and nature. An avid gardener, she was also a very skilled knitter, often knitting special gifts for family and friends.
Carla was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by three brothers, Bruno Lorenzini, Primo Lorenzini, and Remo Lorenzini; six sisters, Bianca Lorenzini, Rosanna Lorenzini, Giuliana Lorenzini, Graziella Lorenzini, Angela Lorenzini, all of Bologna, and Giuseppina Lorenzini, of Perugia; her niece, Virna Candini, of Bologna; her sister-in-law, Virginia Biedenhorn, of Ft. Wright, KY; and her beloved cat, Dolce.
