David Lester Childs, 60, of Williamsburg, VA, died on January 27, 2012. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Schumitz and nephew, Matthew Schumitz.
David received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Fairfield University in Connecticut, and worked for AI-Tek Instruments as a sales and marketing manager. While in Connecticut, he also served honorably in the Connecticut Air National Guard. More recently, he was a member of the Kingsmill Men's Golf Association in Williamsburg, VA, and enjoyed playing golf, exercising and traveling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Susan Childs; father, Robert A. Schumitz, Sr.; brothers, Robert Schumitz, Jr. and his wife, Diana; Ronald Schumitz and his wife, Mary, and their children, Michael and Katie; and Richard Schumitz and his wife, Deborah, and their children, Stephanie and Tucker; nieces, Vicky Marden (Dennis) and Robin White (Aaron); nephew, Thomas Saul (Kathy); and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Wareham's Pond Recreation Center in Kingsmill, 175 Wareham's Pond Rd, Williamsburg on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd, Ste A102, Newport News, VA 23606. Online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com.
