Jesse Stanley Hizenski, a resident of Patriots Colony in Williamsburg, VA, passed away on February 1, 2012 at the age of 94. Born April 28, 1917, in Wyano, PA, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Katherine.
Jesse, Major, USAF (Ret), was a Chief Navigator in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, Korean conflict and Vietnam. He was commissioned a 2nd LT, U.S. Army Air Corps on September 25, 1943 and assigned to a B-17 crew of the 49th Bomb Squadron, 2nd Bomb Group, 15th Air Force. After being shot down on a bombing run over Austria, he was taken POW for 444 days, and spent the remainder of the war assigned to Block 3, North Compound 1, Stalag Luft 1, near Barth, Germany. He retired after 20 years of service in 1963, to go on to serve until 1980 in Federal Civil Service, retiring as Chief of Building Management at the VA Medical Center in Martinez, CA.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Ella Mae Hizenski; his daughters, Joy Hizenski and her husband, Wayne Lee, and Amy Hizenski and her husband, David Dobis; and four grandchildren, Jessica Dobis, Briana Lee, Mary Dobis, and Stanley Dobis.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 4, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd, Williamsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 28 at 10:45 a.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.nelsencares.com.
