HICE, William Forest, 97, of Richmond, VA passed away on Saturday, August 11, 2012. He was born June 26, 1915 in Robbinsville, NC. The oldest of ten children, Forest worked the farm with his father and graduated from Robbinsville High School in 1933. During the Depression, he worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps from 1935 through 1940. He went to work with the U.S. Forest Service on January 20, 1941 and served in North Carolina, Arkansas, Georgia and Florida, retiring in Washington, DC in 1980. Forest was retired for 32 years, living in Chapel Hill, NC before moving to Richmond, VA.

He was preceded in death in 2004 by his loving wife of 65 years, Ruby Lee Maney Hice. Forest is survived by his son, Gerald Forest Hice and daughter, Betty Jean Hice; granddaughter, Susan Elizabeth Budd; four great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Travis, Brandon and Elizabeth Budd.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231. A reception will follow at the Nelsen Reception Center, 4660 S. Laburnum Avenue.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Community Care, 10128 W. Broad Street, Suite J, Glen Allen, VA 23060 or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Beaufont Towers and Hospice Community Care.
